If you’re seeing this in your RSS feed reader or by email, please check out the new look of Legal Practice Pro so you’ve got some context for what I’m talking about. I think you’ll like it – I sure do.
What you see before you is the result of many months of deep thought (on my part) and harder work (on the part of my design team over at Rowboat Media). It reflects the ever-evolving scope of what we’re trying to accomplish here at Legal Practice Pro.
I started out here as a way to pour my out my thoughts about the business of law – marketing, managing and evolving a law practice – and how we as attorneys can and should do better. For ourselves and for the people who rely on us for guidance and solutions. As a lawyer practicing in the field of consumer bankruptcy and consumer protection, I had a lot to share with you.
Over the years I’ve had the good fortune to hear from many of you. Some by email, others as a result of conversation in the halls at various conferences. You shared your frustrations, your questions, and your ideas with me. And for that I thank you; I’ve been lucky to be a part of your professional and personal lives. Many of your thoughts and words have turned into topics we’ve explored here and elsewhere, and the well has yet to run dry on me.
It’s always been about finding and sharing new ways to rethink the practice of law as we stumble headlong into the future, working in a field that is relentlessly backward-looking. How to find order in the chaos of running a practice that caters to consumers rather than to businesses; how to humanize our profession and buck the impression of the profession as lacking a soul and preying on the weak; how to create a life that we always dreamed of.
These have been my questions over the years, and yours as well.
The answers are ever-evolving as our society shifts economically and psychologically. We’re in a unique moment of time to be a lawyer, aren’t we? The rise of platforms designed to bring us closer together, combined with technologies that give us the ability to be productive regardless of our physical location, create new challenges for all of us.
Legal Practice Pro will continue to be a place you can ask those questions and get solutions, a hub for your continuing education on the actual practice of being a lawyer (as opposed to the practice of law). Along the way I’ll do my best to keep you entertained and engaged.
You’ll notice some new areas on the site, all of which are under development as we speak. Products and services you can use to help you, and places to go for deeper learning on a variety of subjects. They’re all coming, but it’s important that things be “just so” rather than slapped together.
Those of you who subscribe by email will get the first opportunity to be a part of things because I believe that those who are most committed to evolutionary change should be rewarded. Think of it as a frequent flyer program for education – if you’re committed to me then I am committed to you.
If it suits you to do so, click here to subscribe at no cost by email. I hope you’ll take the time to do so – it would mean the world to me.
And speaking of the look of the site, it’s designed to evoke a particular point in our national history when technology was first coming into our lives and the future was a bright one. A time when we looked to the promise of the future with great anticipation. In many ways we’re right back there.
Again, thanks for coming by to have a look around.
See you soon.

Grant, I couldn't agree more. Cynthia, Deborah and the rest of the Rowboat gang really blew me away. Doesn't hurt that Headway is such an incredible framework, of course.
Jay the site looks amazing. Rowboat Media did a great job and we are thrilled with how her team took your ideas and made them work on Headway. Outstanding.
