Blogs As Marketing Tools For Bankruptcy Lawyers

Imagine being able to rank at the top of the search engines without spending a dime of your hard-earned money.  People calling from all over the state, willing to wait for weeks for a chance to become your client.

Rise above the fray of competition and really set yourself apart.

Cool, huh?

Well, it’s not out of reach.  There are a lot of ways to accomplish this, and one piece of the puzzle is blogging.

Bankruptcy lawyers interested in marketing their practices often ask me if blogs are good marketing tools.

I usually say, “No,” and start to walk away.  Then I turn around and tell them the insidious truth.

Blogging is the single best marketing tool I have ever used online.  It’s better than Google AdWords (which is terrific if done right – which is rare), a “regular” website, FindLaw, Justia, lawyers.com or the rest of them . . . even the pay-per-lead services you’ve heard about (in the interests of full disclosure, I think there are a few of those companies that do a spot-on job and really take care of their lawyer-clients).

In fact, I love blogs so much that I’ve got a bunch of them.

Some, like this one, exist for the benefit of the community.  It’s fun for me.

For my practice blogs, they are an excellent business tool that make me money and generate lots of business.

But it wasn’t always that way.  In fact, I went through a bunch of blogs before I got it right.  Start-stop, start-stop, rinse and repeat.

It felt like a waste of time and energy.  I couldn’t figure out how to make it work.

I wish folks like Grant Griffiths and Michael Martine had been offering their course when I first started blogging.  Would have saved me a bunch of money.

Grant started out as a family lawyer, then hung up his shingle when his blog got too big – now he teaches other folks how to do it.

Michael is better known as Remarkablogger.  He’s an online machine, doing stuff with blogs that stun me.

Together, they’re running Blawging Lawyers – not a name I would have chosen, but to each their own.

And when you sign up, come by the forum and say hi – I’m always popping my head and in and out.

Yup, I bought a membership.  Because no matter what we may think, there’s always more to learn.

See you there.
