The GAL had another great post today about digital dictation. I just love it when he gets on a role and puts up a bunch of post.
I too use digital dictation in my practice. It truly is another way to stay “connected” with the office or your virtual staff. I use the Olympus 330 and my virtual paralegal uses the Start Stop system to do the transcription of my files. How does this enable me to stay connected? Even though I have a home office, I am out of my office as much as I am in. In order to keep up with the piles of paperwork, I have to be able to dictate and get those dictation to my VPA some how. And this system works great. I dictate, download them to my iBook and email them to my VPA. As long as I can find internet service, I can email them to my VPA. If I were using an old micro recorder, I would have to mail her the tapes and wait on her to get me the documents.
I plan on trying to use my Treo this next week to do this. Since the Start Stop system will play. wav and .mp3 files, I thought I would try it on my Treo. I will be out of the office, taking a break and thought this would be a great time to try this. As long as I have service with my Treo, I can email.
Being a “Connected Lawyer” enables one to always be in contact with the office, clients and the court. Using technology such as digital dictation is just one more tool to accomplish this.

Grant,
Use your Treo to dictate to youdictate.com (which is now http://www.Speak-Write.com).
You can just dictate into the phone and they will transcribe it for you at a nominal fee and it will automatically pop up in your inbox.

I purchased and downloaded software to enable dictation into my Treo 600 which would then be emailed to my assistant for doing, transcribing, etc. In theory it's perfect, but am having trouble getting it to email even though I do email to and from my Treo. If I get it working, it's the answer to a mobile lawyer, beats dictating and downloading and emailing. The software is Palm Dictate, from nch.com. If anyone else has similar experience, please share your comments.
