A recent study put out by IDC, entitled The Google Effect: How Web 2.0, Long Tail Marketing, Buzz and eCommerce Accelerate the Digital Marketplace, shows us that every day 19 million people go online to locate products. Wow – 19 million potential clients are out there just hunting for a solution to a problem.
Let it sink in for a moment. For years, you’ve believed that your traditional television, radio, newspaper and direct mail campaigns would always keep your pockets filled and your waiting area busy. But over the past few years you’ve had to spend more and more money just to get the same results. Or maybe your results aren’t quite as strong as had been the case in the past.
Well, you reason, there’s so much more competition out there. Surely, I need to spend more money just to make my message heard above the din of the others in my market. So you shell out more hard-earned cash, cross your fingers and re-arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
But consider this: with 19 million people out there seeking your services every single day (including weekends and holidays), what are you waiting for? A killer web site costs no more than a newspaper ad, a blog can be had at virtually no cost in many cases, and an ad campaign can be launched in a matter of minutes.
