Hi there - thanks for coming back to visit! While you're here, why not sign up for the Legal Practice Pro Newsletter?
Like many of you, I have been frustrated with the lack of law office specific case management software for the solo and small law firm. Oh, sure there is software out there. And some of it is great. And you have to mortgage the house and first born to afford it. Now there is an alternative. And let me tell you this. I have tried this new legal software and it is quite wonderful.
Most solos and small firms have embraced the use of web based technology the last few years. By taking advantage of this trend, Rocket Matter has developed a web-based practice management software. It is accessible from anywhere with Internet access. You can use it on a Mac, PC, iPhone, or even a Linux machine. You can log on and bill time from the office, home, or on the road.
The crew at Rocket Matter designed it to be as simple to use as possible. Your calendar, contact manager, matter manager, and time and billing software is rolled into one integrated, enjoyable product. You can generate invoices for all your billable matters with a single click of the mouse.
Their “Bill as you Work”™ technology captures your billable time as you go about your day. There is no need to total up hours at the end of the billing cycle or to figure out where your time went.
Getting started is easy. You don’t have to buy servers. You don’t have to pay someone to install Rocket Matter. You don’t even have to buy licenses. You only pay for the number of users you want, and that’s it. Best of all, you can save the likely $8000 you’d have to pay for a traditional practice management setup.
With Rocket Matter, you can sleep well, knowing you have daily backups and security managed for you automatically. And since Rocket Matter’s servers are in a redundant, premier data center, you have an instant disaster-recovery plan.
I encourage all of you to explore this great new product further. Sign up for an exclusive invitation and view a preview of the product at RocketMatter. Subscribe to their Product Updates to follow RocketMatter developments.

Seems interesting, but there’s no demo on the system and no means of contacting the company beyond the opt-in form. The fact that the domain bears an anonymous registration is also troublesome, but that may be a temporary issue until the service fully launches.
I’m glad to hear that more web-based technology options for solos and small firms are being developed. Software as a service is the way of the future for legal software. Solos and small firms will benefit from this type of user-friendly and cost-effective technology.
Hi Jay:
We are currently offering a 30 day money-back guarantee for your trial purposes. We’ll have more options for contacting us in the future. In the meantime, you can email me directly from here and I’d be glad to address any questions you may have!

Could you please contact me about this service? This is something I am definitely interested in. Any information that you could email to me would be very helpful. Thanks!
It does look interesting, but appears to have the following shortcomings:
1) No integration with address book
2) No integrations with iCal – though I understand there may be a workaround using gCal, and if the internal RocketMatter calendar is good, this lack of integration may be an issue only at the time of conversion.
3) No integration with Apple Mail or any apparent way to link incoming and outgoing email messages to a contact or a matter.
4) No document management or apparent way to link (or associate) a Word document or pdf file to a client or a matter.
5) Because documents and email are not stored or indexed in the RocketMatter database, there doesn’t seem to be a way to get a “global view” of everything that has happened in a particular matter or for a particular client.
6) No ability for document assembly or automation (exporting data from RocketMatter into Word documents).
7) There does not appear to be a way to make multiple connections between contacts and matters – but the solution might be apparent once I use the software.
I haven’t tried the demo yet, so my observations are based solely on what I have read and the online screencast at RocketMatter’s site. RocketMatter looks promising and would be a perfect replacement for TimeMatters if addresses these issues.
Hi William! Please be aware that the screencast is only a sample of what we offer and is not intended to be comprehensive information.
1) Integration with Address Book – you can export your contacts to us, and we will import them for you. No synching – yet!
2) Integration with iCal – like Address Book, we can import your calendar events from iCal.
3) Correct – we are not going down the email road at this point.
4, 5, & 6) Documents – stay tuned to our blog at http://www.rocketmatter.com/blog for some promising developments!
7) Linking – we support multiple links. A contact can be involved with any number of matters.
Features are only one way in which we differentiate ourselves from Time Matters!
Web-based, hosted practice management allows you to have ubiquitous access to your information, expert security, backups and business recovery strategies, and a simple user interface people love to use.
And our iPhone optimization – that’s worth seeing the demo for by itself!
