iPhone may have mini OS X

The latest rumors surrounding Apple’s much anticipated ‘iPhone’ is that it will contain a stripped-down version of Apple’s next OS X operating system – codenamed Leopard.

Now that might be a reason for me to actually put the Treo 650 on my desk and leave it there. Mobile communication with iChat, appointments on iCal, sync’d to Daylite, a full Mail app. It will have to have a keyboard like the Treo and room to expand.

Well, it might not live up to my expectations and wishes. But, it is still exciting watching the iPhone develop over the next few months.

God forbid it should have a Treo-like keyboard. The worst feature of the Treo 650, in my opinion. I really miss stylus-based text input.

  2. Greg- I am a little shocked at that comment. I have used both entry methods and I love the keyboard on the Treo. There is actually a software you can purchase and put on your Treo that also allows you to use stylus-based text input.

Grant, thanks for the tip on the software. I used to use the FITALY virtual keyboard on my Plam devices and thought about installing it on my Treo. But with so little screen real estate already, I didn't want to make it even smaller with a virtual keyboard taking up half the display.
When my Cingular contract runs out this summer, I will probably go to a 2-device solution — a cell phone and my old Sony Clie PEG-TH55 PDA (a GREAT PDA) while I wait to see if the iPhone becomes a reality.
