Blogging is the New Black is a recent article at law.com about blogging and the law firm. Go to the link provided and check it out.
Here is some of what was said in the article:
Blogs would seem a natural fit for the legal community because they are about sharing information and establishing expertise. “A firm builds a brand based on its expertise,” says Kevin O’Keefe, president of LexBlog, a legal blog provider based in Bainbridge Island, Wash. “You have to demonstrate you’re a reliable, trusted expert in a specific area.”
It’s a basic business proposition that has driven the growing sophistication of legal marketing over the last several years. And now, through a blog, lawyers can speed up the process of establishing their reputation as an expert. For instance, rather than an occasional appearance at a conference or seminar, attorneys can have an ongoing exchange of ideas regarding their particular expertise. Yet, as is typical of the relatively cautious legal community, many firms have been hesitant to jump on the blog bandwagon too early.

Many firms are reluctant to jump in. This is an area where solos and small firms can make their mark. Solos and small firms should be learning all they can about blogging so that they can take advantage of this technology that BigLaw is avoiding.
