Hi there - thanks for coming back to visit! While you're here, why not sign up for the Legal Practice Pro Newsletter?
Gary Williams has a great website called Small Office Home Office. Gary provides some great insight into the concept of a home office for a lawyer. One page you must go to that I read before opening my home office, “Is SOHO practice right for you?”
As he states on the page, “SOHO practice from home, without staff, associates or partners, has its good and bad points. Here’s what I found so far:”
Quality of Practice
Decreased stress
Low overhead
Better client contact
No backup
Gary includes necessary skills he feels you should have to see if the answer is yes to a home office. There is also some information on office space, insurance and income tax. And don’t forget to double check whether there are zoning issues.
As to the staff issue, I will be posting sometime next week on what I do for support staff. Like myself, my paralegal works from her home. It works great.

Thanks for an interesting article. I think home office is a good concept to promote because people tend to feel more comfortable to work from home and it will for sure increase the productivity.
