Telecommuting!

The Home Business Magazine Online had the following article today. For those of us that work at home, we know the benefits of this arrangement. I work at home and my paralegal also works from her home. In my opinion, I do believe this trend will continue to increase. Especially when you consider how fast technology is moving forward and how fast the internet has become. No longer do you need to sit in an office to have access to good phone service, fax machines and computer networks.

Telecommuting, or more accurately, home working, has…
long been good for the employee by eliminating or reducing high-stress and costly commutes and allowing them more time with their families. But home working is also good for employers by improving productivity, lowering costs, and widening labor pools, argues Home Workplace: A Handbook for Employees and Managers by Brendan Read, published by CMP Books. The book reveals the following benefits:

• A 100-employee operation could save approximately $10 million over 5 years with home working, achieved through real estate savings and productivity gains.

• Employers may gain access to a greater talent pool by removing commuting distance.

• Home working enables organizations to withstand natural and man-made disasters by spreading out the workforce. HBM
