I’ve become lazy in my old age (I know I’m 38 years old, but having a young child makes me feel old). So many things I don’t want to do anymore, yet those routine tasks don’t go away.
I could hire a staff to help me, but that’s really no fun. I’ve had a big staff, thank you very much, and found that their constant whining about who came in ten minutes late or took too many bathroom breaks wore on my nerves in a big way.
Payroll and attendant insurance issues are a money suck, and having the government look over my shoulder to make sure I’m treating employees fairly (which I did, when I had employees) is a little big like having my parents waiting up for me when I was out too late during high school. Not necessary, and a symbol of distrust.
And to top it all off, there’s the fact that I work from home. Having a bunch of people filtering in and out of my living room all day would freak out the dog, and reveal my habit of keeping CNBC on in the background all day.
So I’ve outsourced a bnch of things, from my back office (paralegal and secretarial), lower-level attorneys (legal process outsourcing), some applications (Basecamp, Google Docs), and hardware (Skype, GotVMail, PhoneTag).
What have YOU automated, outsourced, cast away, or just plain killed?
