Discipline is the one thing that most likely sets a home office apart from a traditional office setting. Think about it, we are usually there alone. We don’t have a staff watching us. And we don’t have the senior partner or “boss” watching over us to make sure we are working.
However, I would have to agree with the post from home.wurk.net called, “Work at Home Organization Tips. I have found that if I can keep things organized, i.e. cases and my darn desk, I get more done.
Here are three tips that are included in the above mentioned post to help us keep on track of the multitude of work we do:
➧ Designate days and times for specific tasks. For example, on Mondays I work on one of my jewelry blogs. I get all my entries written, coded, and loaded in that one day. Then I check on the posts throughout the week to make sure they drip okay, but other than that, I don’t have to worry about it.
➧ When off track, get right back on ASAP. Sometimes stuff happens, like you have to take your cat to the vet. These sorts of situations can reek havoc with your schedule, but the best thing to do is make sure you get right back on track. As soon as you get home with Fluffy and you are sure she’s okay, get right back to work.
➧ Prepare if at all possible. If you know of an event that will interrupt your schedule, like lunch with an old friend, prepare a head of time. If I know I’m going to be away when I normally am supposed to be writing, then I try to work a head as much as possible. Even if I can get a little extra work done, even a few extra blog posts, it can make a big difference when I get back to work.
