Jonathan from The Practice had a wonderful post this evening about writing letters. While the entire post is a must read. I am going to provide the great tips at the end here:
My friend Susan Hobson (who is a great attorney and a great person), told me what she was taught about writing letters:
1. Do not put anything in writing that you would not want a judge to read out loud in court.
2. Do not put anything in writing that you do not want your mom to read.
3. Do not put anything in writing that you do not want to be Exhibit A to a jury. (Okay, this one was mine.)Those are some good rules to follow. Be careful about what you put in writing, and before you send it, or click “send” on your e-mail, make sure that you are comfortable letting the world read what you wrote.
Go to the link above and read the entire post. Once you do, you will appreciate the 3 tips above.
